Maxwell Lake

Maxwell Lake is near Mt. Maxwell Park on Baynes Peak – otherwise known as Mt. Maxwell. It supplies the drinking water to much of Ganges and the surrounding area. It provides what is probably the best water on Salt Spring Island. It was threatened by logging in the surrounding area, but much of the watershed has been purchased with the timber still standing to protect the quality of the water. A good gravel road goes from the end of Cranberry Road to the park at the top of Mt. Maxwell. The lake itself is off-limits for recreational use.
