Barry Valentine

Barry Valentine first played the organ for a service in the Anglican tradition at the age of 13 and has since then been very involved in the musical life of the church. He was at one time, both organist at McGill and assistant organist at the cathedral in Montreal. On Salt Spring he has been choir director at All Saints' church and organist at St Marks. He was instrumental in establishing the Music and Munch recital series in 1996, when he played an organ recital twice a week. He has continued to appear regularly both as soloist and as accompanist to singers and fellow musicians. In September of last year he accepted the invitation to launch the organ recital series "Simply Organic" and has delighted audiences not only with his playing but also with his lucid and humorous commentaries.

The Right Reverend Barry Valentine (Retired, Anglican Bishop of Rupert's Land) Bishop Barry Valentine passed away on Friday, October 16, 2009 on Salt Spring Island, BC. A memorial service was held on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at St. John's Anglican Cathedral in Winnipeg.
