Simply Organic

Since the successful launching of the "Simply Organic" recital series in November 2002, lovers of organ music have been enjoying wonderful programmes and an opportunity to expand their knowledge not only of the instrument, but also of a variety of composers. In a uniquely understated and witty manner, organist Barry Valentine has brought to life many well known and sometimes obscure composers and their work, which have challenged, charmed and stirred appreciation for this genre of music and for his playing.

Over the course of fifteen recitals to date, a tremendous amount of material has emerged from his prolific repertoire. For the next three weeks in April 2003, commencing on the 16th, Barry has prepared programmes which include music for Passiontide, Holy Week and Easter. His sense of rhythm, both musically and for the Church's calendar, has influenced the themes of his recitals. Within the context of the music, is the opportunity to experience the depth and variety of human emotion and spirituality. Also woven into the series are the musical requests of audience members, which has added to their pleasure.

"Simply Organic" continues on Wednesdays, commencing at 10:10am at All Saints' , until the beginning of June, with one break on May 7th for Music and Munch. Music is free and followed by freshly made muffins and coffee for a mere $2.00.

Both Music and Munch and "Simply Organic" are produced by Music Makers, whose members are delighted that Barry has agreed to play two of the weekly Music and Munch summer programmes, thus continuing to maintain the opportunity for all to enjoy his skills and the richness of the All Saints' pipe organ.
